App Design concept for university students studying abroad
The Student Initiative Program enriches the study and university life in a social, intercultural and political way. It is a limited duration project that can be led by one or more students.
I had the great opportunity to be the student ambassador for my study abroad period in London, Westminster University from September 2016 to January 2017.
At Macromedia University all students have to study abroad at least for one semester. All the informations, important dates, courses, locations, the onboarding processes, documents and alumni experiences is distributed across all possible platforms and formats like excel sheets, pdf documents, emails etc.
Nothing was at one place.
I came up with the idea of an app called Stodoo, when I found out that using different mediums cause misleading and confusing communication. Either it happened on Whatsapp, or Google Maps Directions, Facebook, Snapchat or Instagram. Why not combining some features like calendar, chat, map, course infos, contacts etc. all together in one app?
The students are already very busy organizing their stay abroad and to manage all their courses and extracurriculum events. Additionally, it is a great relief to have one plattform that has its advantage to inform each student directly only once and with all important things.
As usually, I start with sketching wireframes to see the information architecture to its visual design. To have a good user experience while using the app, it is essential to display several informations consistent.
The app is divided by 5 sections: Feed, My uni, Must see, Chat and More.
Every tab has its vibrant and modern color that makes the app more appealing.

The target group here in this project are students. Their behaviour is mostly open minded, vibrant and curious for discovering new things in life. As for this, I decided to use a color combination that gives them exactly this feeling, bold and adventurous.
Font pairing: Neucha & Lato
Playful but still informative.
Jovanny Lemonad, the designer of the font 'Neucha' said that he invented it when he was in love. He discovered it with the phrase "I love you" around 2005. His typeface is "very strong in terms of energy", he describes.
For me, it works very well in combination with Lato. It gives the App a friendly, but still a trustworthy character.

Sightseeing, restaurants, shops, bars etc are shown here. Rewievs and comments are very helpful when going on tour in a new city. With the direction icon you can navigate to this place.

With this feature you can connect to every student abroad at that one place in one place - Stodoo. Share pictures, locations and photos.
